Jayne, a highly respected coach and key figure within Unicorn Athletic JFC, has died on April 2, 2026 following a very short illness.
Her passing has left the entire Unicorn Athletic JFC community in deep shock and sadness, as she was widely regarded as one of the most influential and dedicated individuals in the club’s history.
Jayne’s involvement with the club spanned approximately 25 years, beginning as a volunteer at club events such as tournaments, where she supported activities in the café and sweet stall. Over time, she became deeply involved as a parent on the sidelines, supporting her son Angus as he developed his passion for football.
Her commitment soon grew into coaching, where she began working directly with young players. When a group of boys were left without a team, Jayne took the initiative to form Unicorn Phantoms, and later Unicorn Phoenix, creating not just football teams but lifelong friendships and a strong community spirit.
Beyond coaching, Jayne played several vital roles within the club, including Safeguarding Lead, Secretary, Treasurer, and Club Development Officer. She was known for her tireless efforts behind the scenes, constantly working to improve opportunities for children and families within the club and wider community.
She also contributed significantly to club operations, including running the café, ensuring players, parents, and visitors were cared for during matches and tournaments. From providing meals on cold mornings to organizing refreshments on busy football days, her presence was a constant source of support.
Jayne was also passionate about mental health awareness and established the club’s Men’s Shed, a community space designed to support individuals and bring people together. The initiative quickly became a valuable resource for those in need.
Her dedication and impact were recently recognized by the Cheshire FA, where she received the “Changing Lives Through Football” award, highlighting her lasting influence on grassroots football.
Jayne’s passing leaves a significant void within the club and community. Her family, including Angus, are currently grieving and have requested privacy during this difficult time.
Jayne is remembered for her compassion, leadership, and lifelong dedication to helping others. Her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched and the foundations she built within the club.
