David Michael Gabrielli Obituary, Death Notice: 72-Year-Old Former Reading Police K9 Handler Dies March 31, 2026

David Michael Gabrielli, 72, has died on March 31, 2026. He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on February 17, 1954, to Marian (Razzano) and the late Gabriel Gabrielli.

A proud graduate of Southern Junior High School (1970) and Reading High School (1973), David later earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Alvernia College following his service in the United States Marine Corps. He also served in the Army National Guard.

David Gabrielli built a long and respected career in law enforcement, serving nearly 30 years as a K9 handler with the Reading Police Department, before later working as a Deputy Sheriff until his retirement in 2020.

He was well known for his love of dogs, especially German Shepherds, which played a key role in his success as a K9 officer. Outside of his professional life, David enjoyed boxing, hunting, and working as a skilled handyman. He was also a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church and a lodge member of Victor Emmanuel II.

He is survived by his children, Brittany Gabrielli-Balaguer (Derek) of Delaware and Daniel Gabrielli (Suzanne) of Germany; his mother Marian; four sisters; and many extended family members including cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, Pennsylvania. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Holy Rosary Church, followed by burial at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In his memory, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue.

David Gabrielli is remembered for his service, dedication, and lifelong commitment to both his community and law enforcement.
